A lot of good things can happen in 60 years!
Fifteen years ago the Shorewood Foundation backed a one-time public art event called “Butterflies in Flight.” The result was 30 custom-decorated butterfly sculptures that adorned the Shorewood business district before they were auctioned off to benefit the Foundation for as much as $1,500 each.
The event “engaged the entire community as residents and guests took walking, biking and driving tours of the business district to see and enjoy all the colorful butterflies,” reported Shorewood Today in its Fall 2009 edition.
Hear from past Foundation Board President, Robert Dean, Jr., who talks about how donors collaborated to give new life to River Park with the creation of Spector Field and SCIF Soccer Fields.

Join us in celebrating 60 years!
All during 2024, the Shorewood Foundation is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, rededicating its efforts to make our community a special place to live, work and play. In its first 60 years, the Foundation has invested more than $1 million in a wide variety of initiatives from the Farmers Market to the July 4th fireworks. The Foundation supports programs for seniors and kids and for those in between, support that helps celebrate, connect, and sustain our community. See a more complete list here.
As we commemorate our anniversary, this page will feature historical messages, videos, and special event announcements. The first of these was last fall’s “An Evening with David Zucker,” which featured a free screening of the Shorewood native’s hit comedy “Airplane!” at the High School’s Auditorium and Zucker reminiscing on stage about his memories of growing up here. He autographed his new book about the making of the movie afterward.
